Nota sul trasporto bici

La bici pieghevole viaggia sui treni senza sovrapprezzo. Se si è su un treno regionale con vagone o spazio dedicato per la bici, la stessa va posizionata lì, piegata. Non essendoci lo spazio apposito, va posizionata dove non arreca disturbo ad altri passeggeri.

“Splendida cittadina in provincia di Chieti, Vasto incanta con un fascino d’altri tempi. Affacciata sul golfo dei Trabocchi, ha origini antichissime e raccoglie le vestigia di tremila anni di civiltà, testimoniate da antiche torri, fortificazioni, chiese e palazzi. Sono ancora visibili tracce dell’anfiteatro romano, i resti delle cisterne di santa Chiara, le antiche Terme che risalgano al II-III secolo d.C., dove sono stati rinvenuti preziosi pavimenti in mosaico raffiguranti il dio Nettuno e altre scene marine”.

Così il sito Abruzzo Turismo descrive la città di Vasto, l’antica Histonium. 

Una descrizione che mette voglia di salire su un treno per raggiungere la stazione di Vasto-San Salvo – a meno di 4 Km dal Molise – per divertirsi a pedalare lungo la bella ciclabile sul lungomare, con la Riserva Naturale Regionale Marina di Vasto fino al collegamento con la ciclabile Bike to coast (al momento in cui scriviamo i lavori sono ancora in corso).

Questo tratto di costa è noto e conosciuto per le sue dune, la vegetazione il bellissimo mare. 

Per raggiungere la ciclabile dalla stazione di Vasto-San Salvo c’è da prendere Contrada San Tommaso una volta all’esterno, quindi attraversare la Statale 16 e andare verso nord. L’imbocco è all’altezza di via Maestro (dalla stazione a via Maestro c’è quasi un chilometro, facendo attenzione alla statale che è sempre abbastanza trafficata).

Si può anche cogliere l’occasione di visitare la bella cittadina di Vasto, considerando però che ci sono circa 3 chilometri di salita in una strada abbastanza trafficata. Per i collegamenti bus consultare Società autoservizi tessitore

Le stazioni di Vasto-San Salvo e quella di Porto di Vasto sono ben collegate, quindi questa pedalata si può ben integrare con la scoperta di Punta Aderci. Consultare l’itinerario Una pedalata sulle dune

Note on bike transport
Free transport for folding bikes. You don’t need a proper ticket for your bike. Once on the train you have to carry your bike already folded and place it in the appropriate wagon: you can find it on Regional trains, marked in the timetables with the bike icon. Otherwise you can place it in a space where it doesn’t bother other passengers.

“Wonderful town in the province of Chieti, Vasto enchants with the charm of other times. Overlooking the Gulf of Trabocchi, it has very ancient origins and collects the remains of three thousand years of civilization, evidenced by ancient towers, fortifications, churches and palaces. Traces of the Roman amphitheater are still visible, the remains of the cisterns of Santa Chiara, the ancient Baths that date back to the II-III century AD, where precious mosaic floors depicting the god Neptune and other marine scenes were found”. A very good reason, then, to get on a train to reach the railway station of Vasto-San Salvo – less than 4 km from Molise Region – to have fun pedaling along the seafront beautiful cycle path. Don’t miss the Regional Natural Reserve of Marina di Vasto

This stretch of coast is known for its dunes and the beautiful sea. To reach the path from Vasto-San Salvo station, take Contrada San Tommaso once outside, then cross the SS16 and go north. The entrance is at Via Maestro (from the station to Via Maestro there is almost a kilometer, paying attention to the main road which is always quite busy).

You can also take the opportunity to visit the beautiful town of Vasto, considering however that there are about 3 kilometers of ascent on a fairly busy road. For bus connections, please consult Società autoservizi tessitore

The stations of Vasto-San Salvo and the one of Porto di Vasto are well connected, so this ride can be well integrated with the discovery of Punta Aderci. Consult the itinerary Riding on dunes.
